Tablescapes. Candlelit dinner for two

A calm and relaxing candlelit dinner.

Hooray I’m Blogging at last!

What a wonderful way to communicate.

I’ve been reading blogs and all about blogs and telling people about blogs for so long it’s like a dream come true to be writing my first blog post.

Frankly, this week I’ve been quite overwhelmed, deciding colours, taking and downloading photos and learning  all the other little details.

What to write in my first post?

I had so many ideas about my first post. A celebration tablesetting with lots of divine backdrops and colour combinations was one idea.

When I finally sat down and remembered to breathe, I decided that I needed to slow down, relax and connect with myself.

It’s an understatement to say that my husband has appreciated this decision.

I opted for a quieter celebration of dinner for two.

The serenity of white.

Shell centrepieces, tablescapes

I  decided to write about a white table setting for my first blog post.

White gives me a sense of peace and calm. It’s the perfect choice for our table at the moment.

We all have our ‘go to’ colours for different moods and  I’ve been  making a point of discovering mine since buying a copy of ‘Design with Colour and  Style’ by  Shaynna Blaze.

I recommend that you follow her guide to discovering your own personal  go to colours.

Colour psychology tells us that white is the colour of new beginnings, a sort of blank canvas waiting to be  painted on. White gives a sense of order.

Just what I need right now!

Gathering the bits and pieces.

I treated myself to a beautiful white geranium from Bunnings which I repotted into a white painted terracotta pot, and a bunch of white flowers from Woollies.

Our crockery is mostly white so that was easy.

Recycled jars for vases.

White candles from Woollies for $4 a box of 6. I used them for a one off dinner it’s not how we dine every night.

White place mats and serviettes from my cupboard. I used cloth serviettes for a one off dinner and then paper ones.

Table runner already owned. Shell wreath already owned. Plant and shells already owned.

All these bits and pieces can be adapted to suit your family needs. I’ll use plastic table mats when entertaining younger family members and friends.

Putting it together.

A simple centrepiece

As I’ll be keeping this colour theme for a few days I’ve created a few different centrepieces to keep the

dining  space more interesting each day.

The potted geranium on white placemat is a simple centrepiece, as is the shell wreath on the white

placemat above.

Adding other elements like plates, jug and bowls gives a more invitng centrepiece.

It’s an easy way to add variety and a simple way to show that you care.

Family members can join in and take turns in creating their own simple centrepieces.

This centrepiece below of a  simple white geranium flower in a vase was the perfect setting for lunch for two empty nesters like us.

Simple dining, tablescapes, white design

Carrying the theme through to breakfast outside in the sun the next day was a great start to the day. I added a touch of black to co-ordinate with the black coffee pot. I know that you probably don’t have time to co-ordinate everyday but it’s nice for weekends and helps when teaching children about colours and connecting to their own creativity.

I’d love to hear your ideas and helpful hints.

What are your ‘go to’ colours?
