A Happy Mothers Day !
Hello All
Mother’s Day is upon us! This is my second year without my Mum and I miss organising her present and all the trimmings that went along with it. She absolutely loved being spoilt and relished opening her presents.
I always love an excuse to create a tablescape so, this year I decided to organise an afternoon tea party for some other Mums and my beautiful daughter Helen.

Beautiful Daughter Helen
Helen has been a huge Jane Austen fan since she was a child. She must have watched Pride and Prejudice at least once every two weeks and read the book many times. It qualified her well for a podcast that she produced, where she would record a chapter each week and then comment on it. A highlight of her interest was when she decided to take the Jane Austen tour of England which ended at the Jane Austen festival in Bath where they all dressed in period costume and promenaded around the town. I’m so proud of my daughter as I’m sure many of you are proud of your own children.
It goes without saying that Helen is a great fan of afternoon tea parties. She no longer lives at home as she has found her Mr Darcy, but her Robert Gordon Liberty collection China set is still safely stored in her cabinet here.
This was the inspiration for my pre Mother’s day afternoon tea party.
The Colour Palette

Robert Gordon China
I love the stripes on the saucers of the tea set and decided to use them for my colour palette.
Pastels were the order of the day.
I’ve been making tulle pom poms and cupcake toppers so was excited to add them, along with words and letters cut out with my scan n cut machine.
A white tablecloth was a great blank canvas although hard to iron.
I used white plates for the colourful food platters.
The subtle colours of the tea set, including jug and teapot, set the scene for a delightful afternoon tea party.
The Perfume

Pink Carnations
Our sense of smell can trigger strong memories. It is said to have the strongest recall of all the senses.
I found a lovely bunch of pink and white carnations with white baby breath at Woolworths for $10.00 (see in the photo above).
Their perfume was surprisingly strong and the colour co -ordinated well.
The bottom half of a china pineapple served well as a vase.
The Food
I really prefer to leave a lot of the cooking to those who are much more capable, but this little snacks were easy to prepare.
The cupcakes were delicious. I bought them from Sweetness Contained in Noosaville www.sweetnesscontained.com.au They serve delicious coffee and delights at their Vintage Cafe. Well worth a visit.

Touch
As we were serving the food at the table, I made sure that each seat had a comfy cushion.
Guests had fun twirling their cupcake toppers and playing with their tulle pom poms.
Sound
The soundtrack to Pride and Prejudice was the obvious choice and brought back many memories of
Miss Bennett and Mr Darcy.
Love is in The Details
I think that this is one of Oprah’s favourite sayings. It really is true.
I love my friends and family and put a lot of love into my afternoon tea party.
Research tells us that if you consider the five senses when entertaining you will have memorable and happy little gatherings.
Even though the table is cleared away now I still have my beautiful carnations as a centrepiece to remind me of a wonderful afternoon well spent.

Carnation and Heart Centrepiece.
Research tells us that if you engage the five sense when organising an event the result will be a memorable Happy Little Gathering. The sixth sense is the love you share while doing it.
Have a Wonderful
Mothers Day
